Service design&Interaction design
Duration: 2 weeks
Project completed in the course “screen”
BACKGROUND:
The task was about incorporating research and feedback from users into the core process to improve service.
The service I chose to improve was SIO service, which offers accommodation for university students in Oslo.
The aim of the project was to build a better interface and friendly user experience of SIO web page, for new international students to select their living places much easier and effective.
RESEARCH METHOD
USER INTERVIEW AND USABILITY TESTING
POOL USER:
I invited a bunch of students with different backgrounds to
make interviews and user testings of the existing service.
PROBLEM DEFINE
USER PROFILE, USER JOURNEY AND MAIN FINDINGS
USER PROFILE AND DATA SORTING:
I analysed users, divided them into different groups and recorded experiences of each type of users.
TARGET GROUP:
After analysing interviews and usability testings and comparing the problems different user groups meet with the Sio service, I found the most help-needed user group was new international students.
Because lack of the knowledge of the local situation, they were much easier stuck during the process of accommodation selecting. So my target group was new international students who had never use the SIO service before.
USER JOURNEY MAP:
The map records different steps of the process when users used SIO to apply for accommodation. Among these steps, the part of filter options and arrange six priorities were essential steps for the user journey. Users were usually stuck in the filter options and they spent much time on the arrange six priorities step.So next, I tried to explore the reason they stuck in the filter options and key factors which help them to make decision of the six priorities list.
PAIN POINTS OF FILTER OPTIONS:
There were two main pain points: the price range and the house unity due to the non-transparent information.
KEY FINDING OF THE FACTORS INFLUENCE THE PRIORITY LIST:
  • The location of the house unity: How far it from their school?
  • The price: What is the average price?
  • The traffic situation: How long can they arrive at school?
Concept & iteration
CONCEPT SKETCH, LOW-FI PROTOTYPE AND USER FEEDBACKS

Form analysing the user journey map , I got to know users' pain points during the process and users' needs when they select the ideal accommodation.
So I wanted to design a better way on the web page to offer the transparent information for student they need more effective and efficient.
Final prototype
IMPROVEMENT POINTS AND DETAILS

There several parts I had made improvements:
1. Visible price range.
2. Alternative way to see the house unity info:The house unities show on the map,so it's clear to see the location.
3. School: I added the school function in the map, so  users can easily check the location and traffic from their school  to different house unities.
4. Micro interaction:I considered the effect of the micro interactive to provide users with better understanding of different information.
